The South Burlington Community Library invites you to participate in a statewide read of Jacqueline Woodson’s Brown Girl Dreaming for Vermont Reads 2017. This beautiful memoir of the author’s childhood, written in verse, tells the story of a young person finding her voice and examines the strength of family bonds. A grant from the Vermont Humanities Council has awarded the South Burlington Community Library 65 copies of Brown Girl Dreaming to share with the public. Vermont Poet Shares Books She Crafted In Our Library

Vermont poet Terry Hauptman made a gift of copies of her poetry books to the South Burlington Community Library last week. When she lived here in Chittenden County, she would often come to the library to type up her poems, which ultimately were published in one of her published books. First Annual Read-a-thon: Huge Success for SB Community Library

More than 75 people attended the SB Library’s first annual Read-a-thon on Sunday, February 5. The Library collaborated with mentoring agency Everybody Wins! to offer an afternoon of reading aloud, music and prizes. Library director Jennifer Murray commented, “It was exciting to have readers in every corner of the Library, from elementary-aged kids sharing books with each other, to little ones being read to.” Hundreds of books were available in categories at “islands”, where children picked out books to read to each other or their families.
