It was a BOOtiful weekend of festive family fun as little ghosts and goblins flitted in and out of the annual Spooktacular Halloween events produced by the South Burlington Recreation and Parks Department.
We kicked off the weekend with a community pumpkin carving party where families brought their energy and enthusiasm for carving and were able to leave the mess to us. It was great to see so many families getting in on the fun and we are proud to announce that we had three adults in attendance who were first time pumpkin carvers, promising to come back for more next year.
Participants walked away from the night with the glow of over forty illuminated pumpkins lighting the way. Special thanks to Sigma Phi Society from UVM for their volunteer assistance in carving and cleaning!
Sunday boasted record attendance numbers as trick-or-treaters braved the wind and weather at our outdoor Trunk or Treat, before making their way inside FH Tuttle Middle School.
Over 600 people made their way through the spooky hallway to enjoy games and activities in both the cafeteria and gym. Highlights of the event were the ever popular Bingo, Cookie Decorating with Price Chopper, Halloween Crafts, Carnival Games, Face Painting and the Sun Common Bouncy Castle.
We were thrilled to provide this event free of charge and based on the survey feedback, will continue to do so. Thank you to all who helped support this event, most especially our sponsors and our extraordinary student volunteers from the South Burlington High School Coalition for Community Service, who made up our “Skeleton Crew.”
As one attendee stated, “It was a wonderful event and provided a nice inter-generational afternoon.” We hope to see you next year as we introduce some new elements to the event—perhaps something for your four legged friends.
We wish you all a Safe and Happy Halloween.
